Segula Continues to Acquire in Automotive ER&D: Strengthens Plastics Engineering Capabilities with Activetech

/ July 31, 2018/ Automotive, France, M&As (small under $50m in revenues), Mechanical Engineering, Segula, Unknown

Segula Technologies has acquired Activetech, a plastics engineering firm based in Caen, France. The company serves the supplier automotive sector, and provides design and engineering services for interior and exterior parts. Activetech is small: the company has a headcount of 84, and has offices Lille, and Lyon (France), and Casablanca (Morocco).

Segula had acquired in July 2016 a similar plastic ER&D specialist, 3AI, of about the same size (~71 FTEs), also targeting automotive suppliers. 3AI was located in Trappes, close to Paris. Segula is therefore adding scale to its plastic engineering capabilities, in its largest client vertical, automotive, which represents an estimated 50% of revenues. Segula is also deploying its model outside of France, and has made several automotive acquisitions in the past two years. EK Design was a significant purchase and brought 400 FTEs in ER&D. Techicon Design brought design skills in the UK, and also the US and Germany.

Altogether, Segula has gained some scale in the Germany Austria region with 550 FTEs, halfway though its critical size target of 1,000 FTEs. Segula has announced a partnership with ESG in Germany, whose largest business is automotive, and is called ESG Mobility. More about the partnership here.
